Leave it to Samuel L. Jackson to give the nation the four-letter belly laugh we all need right now. The Shaft star video’d into Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night (March 31) to read a very timely update of the bedtime poem that became a viral sensation nearly 10 years ago, Go the F–k to Sleep. “
Chilling in his screening room at home in a custom t-shirt with his face on it, after deflecting Kimmel’s latest attempt to join him on his annual lavish summer vacation with Magic Johnson, Jackson dug into his timely update of author Adam Mansbach’s four-letter lullaby. “People thought that this would be the perfect time to kind of bring that back,” Jackson said, noting that Mansbach had called him recently to discuss the sequel.
“Something that would remind people of what social distancing and where we are in these times right now.” With some soothing piano in the background, Jackson dug into the filthy tip-filled verses. “Stay the f–k at home/ The Rona is spreading, this s–t is no joke/ It’s no time to work or roam/ The way you can fight it is simple my friends/ Just stay the f–k at home,” he said. “Now, technicallyI’m not a doctor/ But motherf—ers listen when I read a poem/ So here I am, Sam f—ing Jackson imploring you to keep ya ass at home.”
Watch Jackson read the full poem on Kimmel below (beginning at the 5:55 mark).
